Tree

A tree was suggested for the spirit of community for many reasons, including that all its components "contribute to the making of its ultimate goal, the fruit," because of the shade and shelter it provides, and because trees "branch out in different ways, but they come from the same place." One person wrote that a tree's "common roots provide strength. They lead upward to the branches, which represent our diversity and uniqueness as individuals … we are each part of the whole … together a thing of beauty, growing and bending with the winds of change, but maintaining balance and symmetry." Another person reminded that planting a tree is "an act of faith and a sign of commitment." The border around this symbol is a combination of two kinds of vines found in Frederick - cultivated English ivy and bind weed, a type of wild morning glory.
