How long does it take to paint one stone?

This question was frequently asked during the painting. Shared Vision engaged a team of time management consultants to determine the answer. The consultants studied the actvities of the muralist as the painting progressed. Their findings are itemized below.

To create one average stone it takes:

5 minutes of layout
3 minutes of blocking in
22 minutes of finish painting
14 minutes of minor fussing
4 minutes of "just a little quick fixing"

and...

18 minutes of red tape and approvals
35 minutes of public education, events, speaking engagements, writing, editing, media contacts, graphic art direction on print materials, etc.
10 minutes of budget preparation and oversight
9 minutes writing and editing grant applications
11 minutes working with consultants (engineering, architectural, waterproofing, etc.)
2 minutes playing "phone tag"
24 minutes of design time
19 minutes of mobilization, moving scaffolding, shed, trailer, footbridges, equipment, obtaining supplies, etc.
6 minutes horsetrading favors for materials or supplies not otherwise affordable
19 minutes overseeing surface preparation
16 minutes supervising assistants
1 minute retrieving brushes and tools dropped in creek
2 minutes cleaning brushes ( nearly two weeks total on this project)
36 minutes miscellaneous

Total: 258 minutes (4.3 hours) per stone

There are approximately 2,200 stones on the bridge.
